Fimblewinter 1995 - 1998 (Prior to venue start)
The Kingdom of the Rolling Hills was never the most populous place in Concordia. Nobles and courtiers often found that living in the nearby Kingdom of Apples, seemed to prove both more comfortable as well as more beneficial (being that close to Queen Mab, who in turn is close to the High King). Those who were merely looking for an open and peaceful place to call home had the options of living to the south, in the temperate Kingdom of Willows, or the west, in the even-keeled Kingdom of Grass.
Despite the options Kithain had, the Kingdom of the Rolling Hills was strong. A good and honorable Dougal family, hand-picked by High King David himself, was selected to rule. The lands for this Kingdom were taken from the wild borders of the Kingdoms of Apples, Grass, and Willows; High King David wanted to create more opportunities for Kithain to hold title and lands, and also to bring the Kings and Queens closer to their subjects. The new King's family had previously held a Duchy in the Kingdom of Apples, but David saw the need for strong leadership after David's previous choice for King was slain on a quest into the Dreaming after a rogue Dragon.
King Maxwell SilverHand and his second wife Ermingard Capet (Maxwell's first wife was older than he, and fell into banality years before), along with the King's daughter Brighid, occupied SilverSpire Palace in the mortal year 1995. This palace was built for the new King by the finest craftsmen in Concordia (the former King's capital was in Terre des De'buts, Washington DC). Soon afterwards, the King began to restructure some of the Kingdom, spreading out Duchies more (as many Dukes held residence near the Kingdoms of Apples and Willows), as well as appointing a few new Dukes and Duchesses.
The Kingdom of the Rolling Hills had always been the site of fantastic high adventure. From Sea Serpents and Pirates along the eastern shores, to the wild Griffins that made their home in the center and west of the kingdom, to the more-than-occasional Dragon that made its way across the northern part of the Rolling Hills. King SilverHand often accompanied Barons and parties of Knights on such adventures, reveling in the joys of the hunt, and establishing camaraderie with many of the rank of Knight. In addition, the King would regularly visit Mews and Freeholds, to meet his people face-to-face, and to establish their trust (for King SilverHand knew that with the entire Kingdom's trust, keeping the lands peaceful and good would be much easier).
Duchy of the Midnight Rose (formerly Howling Winds [Ohio])
The Duchy of the Howling Wind was first established under Duchess Katerina Morganna ap Eiluned, a powerful Sorceress who created a Tower of Wizardry in the middle of the Great Winding Forest (the Wayne National Forest). The Duchy was a place of peace and calm, until the chimerical disease struck, taking down the Duchy's Kithain occupants' numbers to almost nothing. Thankfully, the King and his Sorcerer helped end the plague, and bring back some order. During the FimbleWinter, her entire tower collapsed upon itself, and presumably destroyed her as well. In early 1999, the Dreaming (and King Maxwell SilverHand) selected Rhufan mac Kiernen ap Dougal as the Howling Wind's new Duke.
Duchy of Hard Knocks (Kentucky)
This land reflects the nature of it's ruler, Duke Jebediah Jacobson ap Fiona, and in the Dreaming is chaotic and full of many beatings for the unwary. The Duke's castle is wrought of solid gold, in the Dreaming near Fort Knox (one of the many puns involved in this Duchy's name, the other being a reflection on the tribes of Redcaps that make their home there). The landscape of Hard Knocks is mostly hilly or barren, filled with roaming tribes of Redcaps (and rumors say, some Goblins as well).
Duchy of Common Dreams
A land sharing the Great Winding Forest, Common Dreams is a place of passion. Its ruler, Duke Coailfhioon Liath ap Dougal wanders about, leads with a wisdom that even the commoners can relate to. The City of Iron (so named for the Crags that reside within it) is the center for most Kithain activity within the Duchy.
Duchy on the Bay
The recently appointed Duchess Slaine ni Chonaill ap Eiluned watches over the this land. Despite the occasional pirate ship or sea serpent, the land is usually very quiet and subdued. The castle of the King, Argent Dreams, finds its home in downtown Washington, DC. The previousDuchess, Emma Pelstar ap Liam, has gone missing since her loss of lands to Slaine.
